18 Degree under the HorizonMultimedia Audiovisual performance, 2024
Performed at: Lichtkunst-Spaziergang, Wasserschloss Reelkirchen 2024 When the sun reaches 18° below the horizon, twilight's brightness is nearly zero. At this moment, the project 可以 (ke3 yi3) begins their sensory exploration of this natural phenomenon at Wasserschloss Reelkirchen, continuing their on-site exploration from earlier this summer. They enact the spatial temporalities between bodies through rituals, inviting visitors to encounter spaces, each other and objects. These encounters are immersed in algorithmic audiovisual projections, becoming ephemeral shelters and temporary dwellings. “At last, we light up the fire, 18° below the glowing coals, under the thing; we see you.
The project "可以 (ke3 yi3)," meaning "can" in English, unites two visionary female artists, Echo Ho and Jiawen Wang. Both were born in China, bridge generations of the 70s and 90s, and are now based in Berlin, Germany. They weave a tapestry of interdisciplinary and multimedia performance art that engages with profound philosophical inquiries.
Echo Ho crafts modular, onomatopoeic, and poetically estranged works that span a broad spectrum of media, blending ancient instruments, microcontrollers, and contemporary landscapes. Jiawen Wang creates immersive, site-specific transpersonal performances and installations that explore technique, time, and the layers of reality.
