18° Below the Horizon is a hybrid performance project that explores the profound human stories of migration, grief, and loss at sea. Encouraged by the Missing Migrants Project—an initiative by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) since 2014 to document the deaths and disappearances of migrants—this project grapples with the challenges of representing incomplete and approximate data. Behind every number lies a person, a family, and a community, underscoring the immeasurable depth of loss and memory. This project envisions AI agent that are not merely a tool but a collaborator, embodying creative autonomy to transform. Drawing on ritual practices, algorithmic art, and storytelling. AI accelerates through vast spaces of possibility to engage with stories and junctures that challenge conventional logic. The project aspires to redefine how we memorialise and reflect on marginalised communities' experiences, using technology to transform grief into collective remembrance and solidarity.
